Frequently Asked Questions

Because feeling informed is the first step toward feeling empowered.

  • Think of a birth doula as a birth coach. I provide guidance and care during pregnancy as well as delivery. I present a wealth of knowledge to help you navigate every birth decision with clarity. Together we have “Birth 101” prenatal meetings where we go over many topics such as what to expect and how to feel prepared for labor. During delivery, I will guide you through positions, movement and breathing so we can help labor progress naturally. I also offer comfort techniques like massage, counter-pressure and reassurance to ease stress and pain. I’m there to help you feel grounded, heard, and empowered every step of the way. Think of me as a calming, knowledgeable presence in your corner when you need it most.

  • A midwife is a medical professional trained to provide prenatal care, deliver babies and monitor the health of both the mother and baby during pregnancy, labor and postpartum. A doula on the other hand is a non-medical support person who offers emotional, physical and informational support throughout the journey. While a midwife focuses on clinical care, a doula is there solely for your comfort, advocacy and continuous presence—both roles are valuable and work beautifully together.

  • Not at all! I’m there to support both you and your partner. I help your partner feel confident in how to support you and step in when they need a break, so you’re both cared for. We all work together as a team!

  • I support births in all settings. I work with your care team to create a respectful and collaborative environment no matter where you choose to birth.

  • Absolutely! My role is to support your choices. Whether you plan to use an epidural, have a scheduled cesarean, or aim for an unmedicated birth, I’m here to help you feel supported and informed.

  • I do not take insurance, but I do offer payment plans. You can also add me to your registry. Ask me how! Support is the ultimate gift!

  • In the rare case I can’t attend your birth due to illness or emergency, I work with a few trusted doulas who could serve as a backup. They would be fully briefed on your wishes and ready to step in with the same level of care and support.

Don’t just take my word for it

Hear what my clients have to say about working with me

  • Successfully avoided a c-section

“I cannot even begin to explain my gratitude for Sam’s heart and experienced guidance for me. I ended up having a pretty long labor process that went well into the night and early morning and she did not skip a beat in her support every hour along the way. It felt so comforting for her to know my birth plan and work collaboratively with the nursing staff to help me with new positions to help the labor process along and listen to the needs of my baby and his safety. Her heart is so genuine. If you’re looking for someone that deeply cares and can hold you confidently through the labor process, I couldn’t recommend her enough. I was able to advocate for some of my needs for more time during labor and was able to successfully avoid a c section at the last minute. If you’re curious, REACH OUT TO HER! She’ll look out for you.”

    —Beatriz

  • We felt safe, prepared and supported

“She has such a wealth of knowledge and was able to answer all of mine and my husband's questions. We felt safe, prepared and supported. I loved that she supported me as well as my husband so that he could be involved in the birth process as well. I am not exaggerating when I say we could not have done it without Sam. Her expertise is a huge reason that I was able to go unmedicated. She helped me stay calm and comfortable, advocated for us with hospital staff, stayed with me every step of the way and cheered me on as I gave birth. We cried and hugged before she left the hospital after I had my son and she truly felt like part of the family. I will be recommending her to everyone I know who needs a doula!”

    —Sava

  • Made me feel safe

“Hiring Sam was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It gave me so much peace and confidence going into labor knowing I had someone I could lean on that has experience. I know everything my husband and I have seen videos on would go out the window when it came time to actually use it so it was really great having her there to help support my pain, my decisions, and also helping support my husband so he could rest too. She helped advocate for me and made me feel safe. I highly recommend her!”

    —Kelly

  • Our experience was amazing

“Our experience with Sam as our doula was amazing. I am so grateful for her knowledge and calm spirit. She was always available when I needed her, she encouraged me and educated me to feel confident in the decisions I was making throughout my pregnancy. She taught my husband how to support me during labor and I am so grateful for that! I would recommend her to anyone looking for a doula!”

    —Eliza

  • I’m so grateful we connected

“From the moment I met Sam, she’s been incredibly supportive. When I was dealing with morning sickness, she shared helpful remedies, Amazon finds, and podcasts. Now at 17 weeks with my first baby, Sam continues to check in, remembers all my appointments, and is always available when I have questions. I’m so grateful I connected with her and would recommend her to any expecting mom!”

    — Keah

  • I felt very supported

“I felt very supported by Sam during my pregnancy and delivery! She was incredibly helpful. During my labor she played a big role in keeping me calm, and during postpartum she checked in on me and my family with genuine care. I would highly recommend Sam!”
